November 2021
Our Shed at Swansacre is now open
the men are returning to rekindle old relationships and create new ones. New members are very welcome. So if you are interested in joining a community of men who like to meet for a chat over a cup of tea and want to learn new craft skills or improve your existing woodwork or metalwork skills or learn how to maintain your bike we would be delighted to see you. Why don’t you pop in and have a look around our new premises. It costs nothing for entry and membership is free.
The opening hours are now: 10am to 1pm Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
A big thank you to the Shed supervisors who have been faithfully opening the Shed and cleaning after each day’s use, without them the Shed would not be open. We ask everyone to adhere to the Covid guidelines. It is okay to sit and chat over a cup of tea, work in the workshops and use common sense when moving around the building.
The new woodwork workshop is looking great and is now almost complete with benches, tools, machines with dust extraction. The metalwork and cycle workshop is busy as you would expect with bikes being converted to electrical bikes as well as repairs and servicing of bikes. New electric bikes are also available to purchase at huge discounts.
The social area already is busy with tea, coffee and biscuits. Many thanks to George Cameron who has kindly offered to serve up bacon and egg rolls when the kitchen will be completed soon. Pool, darts and board games are all available for use. The craft/hobbies and computer rooms still need completed and hopefully this too will be finished soon.
A tremendous amount of time and effort by shedders has gone into converting the former Learning Centre into the Kinross & District Men’s Shed. We have almost completed the huge task that was required to make 15 Swansacre suitable for the Shedders. A big thank you to the guys who gave up their time and have worked so hard to make the conversion as smooth as possible.
Security cameras are now fitted throughout the premises. The defibrillator has been installed outside for use by the public, many thanks for the Kinross First Responders. The Gas heating boiler has been serviced for the winter. Planning permission has been granted for the storage container so we need to get that painted and thanks to Gutters 2 Glory who freely powered washed it. The security alarm is now upgraded and working.
Comrie Men’s Shed
Nine members travelled by minibus, driven by George Cameron to Comrie Men’s Shed at Cultybraggen for the quarterly P&K Men’s Sheds network meeting. We found their Shed very interesting and we came away with some ideas for our own. We had a great time and it was followed by a lovely lunch provided by CMS. Well done to George Ponton for organising the outing.
Minibus driving course & First Aid Course
The Shed is organising courses for the above for any Shedders who are interested in driving the minibus to future events. We are also planning a one day First Aid course with the St. Andrews First Aiders complete with certification.
XMAS Dinner
Plans are under way for this years Christmas dinner. George Ponton is organising it so if you would like to attend or have any suggestions please speak to George.

visit by roseanna cunningham msp
Pictured below during her visit, Roseanna Cunningham MSP for Perthshire South and Kinross-shire and Scottish Government Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform pictured along with Councillor Richard Watters and Shedders. She visited to chat about the Shed and how it’s changing lives as well as our need to find more practical premises to allow us to stay warm in winter and other projects that we are currently restricted in trying due to current building/lease restraints.
Men’s Shed group welcomes MP
Pictured: The group with Mr Graham, Mr Purves and Mr Robertson.
The Kinross Men’s Shed welcomed a local MP in a bid to strengthen its funding streams.
Conservative MP for South Perthshire Luke Graham met members, looked around the facilities and discussed future funding needs to help ensure its long-term development. The MP was joined by councillors Callum Purves and Willie Robertson. During the visit we discussed the possibilities of an Asset Transfer of Council owned land to allow us to build and own our Shed, with funding help.
