I was brought up in Fishcross and went onto serve my time as an electrician in the construction and manufacturing industries. I moved on to working in the insurance sector as an Inspector. Moved up to Tain in the Highlands where I lived for about 30 years and brought up my family. I ran my own electrical contracting business for 10 years before I decided to go off to Edinburgh university to study a Bachelor of Education in Design & Technology.
The best job ever was being a ‘techie teacher’ at Peterhead and Invergordon Academies. Working with and teaching young people is most rewarding. One of the most wonderful things in life I have discovered is that ‘Every day is a school day’, we are always learning.
In my role as Chairman I hope to bring my life skills and experiences to KDMS. I acknowledge that we all have something to bring to the table. I see my role as encouraging and inspiring the men to enjoy their time in the Shed by leading, planning, providing support, and encouraging our members to work together to fulfil the ethos of the Men's Shed, which is to belong to a community of men who wish to come together to share ideas, develop new skills and share their knowledge over a cup of tea.

I was born in 1931 in the Scottish borders close to the Gala Water, which qualifies me as a "Braw lad".
I lived there until I was 15 and had a great childhood.
During this time I had one regret and this is that in 1942 I slept right through a bombing raid.
All the front windows in the house were blown out, shards scattered everywhere and I didn't hear single thing.
I attended Dalkeith High School followed by Technical College and had an excellent engineering apprenticeship
which has left me a handy chap to have around.
. I also worked in the coal industry and when that closed down I ended up in property development.
I eventually stepped down from this role a few years ago and moved to Kinross.
This was where I was lucky enough to hear about the Mens shed.
To this day I have enjoyed the companionship and the varying interests that surround it.
