the sub-COMMITTEE
Glen - Chairman
I enjoy working with the diverse team and the challenges that my post demands within the Men’s Shed.
My various engineering, apprentice training and service skills are regularly in demand which are an asset to the Shed team and Shedders when asking for help with their projects. My skills and experience also benefit the day to day running of the Shed and enriches the experience. I’m relentless about Health and Safety and using my experiences with Quality Assurance and Trade
Union activities to add value to Men’s Health and Wellbeing in and outside the Shed environment.
Previously employed by the Ministry of Defense as the Equipment Examiner Scotland with a Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) Workshop and have almost 20 years experience in mechanical, electrical and optical based weapon systems, vehicle engineering, Mechanical Calibration, Quality Assurance, H&S, staff supervision as well as apprentice coaching and mentoring.
I have also been a community councilor when I lived in Fife and recently sat on the Kinross Primary School Parent Council.
Being a carer for my elderly and disabled parents as well as being disabled myself and having a young family has given me skills I find useful in the role as Chairman, but the reason I joined was to be just a Shedder.
I previously applied for the post of Project Manager of the Fife based Tool Shed and was impressed when i researched their Men’s Shed and the whole movement and knew I had lots to offer as well as lots to gain from being involved. Not being successful with that post, a few years later found the offer of a local Shed starting up too good to be true so jumped at the chance to join.
I like helping the community, as does my wife and girls. We all volunteer time to local groups and hope to inspire others to do the same.
Roy - Secretary
I am a time served electrician by The Dunfermline Cooperative Society Works Dept. I worked in Rosyth Dockyard Nuclear Facility, building sites, SSEB Longannet Power Station, Scottish Power Contracting, MFI kitchens, Self Employed, Scottish Gas. When you are a family man with young children “the community” is generally something other people get involved with, at least in my case.
When I retired, kids all moved out i began to wonder “what happens now”? Sitting watching daytime tv, gardening, diy, waiting..for what. Whats the next big event, well we all know what that is! When I heard of The Men’s Shed starting in Kinross I thought Why Not. I somehow ended up on the Steering Group, then on The Committee, then Treasurer for our first year, now secretary. I have seen the difference “The Shed” has made to mens lives, their health and general well-being improve, their mental attitude change and best of all real friendship and lots of laughter, and that includes me!!!
Yes it does have a high percentage of older men but our youngest at the moment is in his early twenties. There is a wealth of skills on tap for any age to access and benefit from.
Anyone out there wondering “is this for me”, you will never know unless you try it. It worked for me.
TOM WILSON - tREASURER
I was born in 1931 in the Scottish borders close to the Gala Water, which qualifies me as a "Braw lad".
I lived there until I was 15 and had a great childhood.
During this time I had one regret and this is that in 1942 I slept right through a bombing raid.
All the front windows in the house were blown out, shards scattered everywhere and I didn't hear single thing.
I attended Dalkeith High School followed by Technical College and had an excellent engineering apprenticeship
which has left me a handy chap to have around.
. I also worked in the coal industry and when that closed down I ended up in property development.
I eventually stepped down from this role a few years ago and moved to Kinross.
This was where I was lucky enough to hear about the Mens shed.
To this day I have enjoyed the companionship and the varying interests that surround it.

My main role is to update this very site you are on now. I know right, it has such an amazing layout!
I love what the mens shed represents. They are really doing something truly amazing for their community.
