Men’s Shed at Arlary Stables:
Many thanks to Lucinda Russell and all the staff at Lucinda Russell Racing, for being very community oriented and hosting some Men’s Shedders today at Arlary Stables.
We were welcomed by horse racing and trainer legends, Lucinda Russell OBE and Peter Scudamore MBE, and then introduced to their senior team.
Then after coffee and chat went off to enjoy the rare opportunity of watching the ‘gallops’ training session which was a sight to behold.
After arriving back at the stables for a cuppa and biscuits, we were off on a guided tour round the stables, tac room etc by head girl Ciorstaidh, who was a brilliant and entertaining guide!
A massive, military style operation is required to run this Grand National winning stables, which employs over forty staff. If your thinking of a career in this please get in touch with Lucinda.
We didn’t meet their 2017 Grand National winner ‘One For Arthur’ as he and ten more horses were away to the Kelso races today.
Our Shedders will be talking about this for a long time to come!
If your group or organisation is interested in seeing this, get in touch with them as they are an asset to the community!
MENS SHED RENOVATES BENCH:
Another amazing community project completed as a local worn out bench was given a new lease on life by our fellow Shedders.
mens shed workout:
Our new multigym at the mensshed is now all set up and ready to go!
Exercise in the shed will aid in combating high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis.
Not only that it lowers depression and anxiety which is a step forward in and combating #socialisolation while having fun in the Shed.
hector trys electric trike:
This Shedder, Hector, has just had foot surgery but wants to get about Independently.
So, he’s loaned out our new Electric trike for a while. Look at him go!
A new Advice Hub has been launched in Loch Leven Health Centre near Kinross to provide support and information to the local community.
The Hub, which is based in Loch Leven Health Centre, has been set up by Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership Healthy Communities project and local Kinross-based charity, Broke not Broken.
The Hub will offer drop-in advice and support sessions on a range of topics, including benefits signposting, community connecting, job applications and drug and alcohol support services.
Perth and Kinross Health and Social Care Partnership Healthy communities Project Officer Shona Fowler said, “The new Advice Hub is a partnership between Kinross-shire charity Broke not Broken and the Health and Social Care Partnership and Loch Leven HC. It provides a much needed local drop-in facility to support people with benefit issues, community connections, advice and signposting to services and community organisations.
“As the Hub is in the Loch Leven Health Centre, it is accessible to everyone and is based in a discreet and comfortable venue. Our location also means health centre GPs and staff can easily refer their patients if needed.”
The Hub was developed following local public engagement meetings held by Broke not Broken to discuss the demand for support services in the local area. The Hub has also received donations from the local Time Exchange programme and Sainsbury’s supermarket to buy equipment.
The Hub will include:
• Community Connecting and signposting sessions every Thursday between 9.30am and 12.30pm. People can pop in to have a chat and find out more about local groups and organisations that can benefit their wellbeing. Appointments can also be made by calling 07896 280843.
• Perth and Kinross Drug and Alcohol Support Services will be hosting drop-in sessions on Thursdays between 10am to 12.30pm to provide advice and support. Appointments can also be made by calling 07766 991570
• Staff from Broke Not Broken will offer support and advice on topics such as receiving benefits, writing a CV or completing job application forms at drop in sessions on Fridays between 10am and 12noon.
• The Perth and Kinross Council Employability Service will also provide support on the third Friday of every month.
• A team from Macmillan Welfare rights will be on hand to offer advice on the first Friday of every month between 10am and 12noon.
If you require and further information about the Advice Hub, please contact Shona Fowler on 07896 280843 or email firstname.lastname@example.org

Thanks to all for supporting our Popup Shed today at Kinross Farmers Market.
Lots of interest in the Shed and also our bid for the Learning Centre.
Explaining to them that we may lose the bid to a private developer, as there are a few interested, really angered many. We’ve done all we can and now await the deadline.
Thanks to all of the Shedders and public for the support today!
mENS SHED KINROSS DISTRICT INSTALL BENCH SEAT & PLANTER FOR LOCAL RETIREMENT HOME:
The residents asked us before Christmas to build/install a bench seat and planter, specifically to fit their entrance. So that they have a nice sheltered place to sit and wait on their minibus lifts, as well as brighten their entrance. The ladies today were over the moon with the extra miles went by the Shed to make these and paint in long lasting specialist paints. They look forward to many years of sitting and watching the world go by.
A great project for the Mens Shed, by Shedders John and Jack and installed and bolted down by Dave F and Glen D.
Kinross Mens Shed Shedder Roy is taking the @cyclotricity_ltd Wallet folding bike for a free week trial. Roy will use it instead of his car and in real world situations and report to the company and our Kinross Shed. We are currently building the amazing ebike at our Shed as well for free loan to the guys to aid well-being mens health and reduce social isolation.
The open learning day was a great success and had an amazing turnout as well.
We shared our vision of future use of EBikes and how they are going to brilliant use for those with mobility issues.
Fantastic Catering was also provided by Tayside Contracts, highly recommend their variety in choice of select food - https://www.tayside-contracts.co.uk/catering/
Thanks to NHS Healthy Communities Officer Shona Fowler, P&KC Learning and Development Officer Tracey Ramsay and Tim Green Age Scotland Mens Shed Officer, charge nurses from PRI that carried out men’s health screening, Historic Environment Scotland for supplying Stonemasons for carving sessions, Citizens Advice for advice on Benefits, Scams and funding info and to Sheds from Perthshire and Clackmannanshire.
Also to special thanks Perth and Kinross Council at the Loch Leven Community Campus for hosting the event.
